Impromptu

Impromptu is a collection of solo piano pieces composed and improvised by Neil between 2001 and 2007 (with one piece from 1994). These pieces move beyond the easy "New Age" classification usually associated with solo piano music. They cross the style spectrum from gentle Chopinesque waltzes to thunderous percussive displays to ethereal improvisations. Some of the works presented here were composed especially for this project, while others come from spontaneous improvisations that Neil recorded on a whim years ago.
"There's something both limiting and liberating in confining myself to my ten fingers and a piano. My listening tastes lean more toward large production arrangements. It has been so rewarding to get back to what matters most in music: melody and the accompaniment that supports it. I hope you'll enjoy listening to this as much as I have creating it!"
